Tech Hiring Trends in Denver: The Economic Update and What It Means for Your Career

February 27, 2025

The Colorado Technology Association recently released their latest Colorado Tech Industry Report and overall things are looking strong for Tech in Colorado. Tech jobs make up 10% of all employment here and there were over 17,000 unique job postings last year, and the market remains competitive. However, with shifts in salary trends, remote work, and AI hiring, there are some interesting trends to stay on top of.

Here are three key takeaways from the report and what they mean for your career:

1. Colorado Ranks 6th for Tech Salaries -But (Unsurprisingly) Still Trails Behind Coastal Hubs

The average salary for Colorado Tech workers is $165,600 per year. Colorado is behind states like California and Washington, where salaries approach $250,000 and Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey also outpace Colorado.

What this means for you:

  • Salary expectations obviously vary widely based on each role and company - but this does highlight a very real difference that I see with my clients everyday who work in California and other states or here in Colorado.

  • If you’re negotiating a raise or a job offer, understanding salary trends in your field can give you leverage.

2. Denver Leads the Nation in Remote Workers

Colorado ranks #1 in the percentage of remote workers.  While this doesn’t mean local companies offer the most remote jobs, it does mean many professionals in Colorado work remotely for out-of-state employers.

What this means for you:

  • As hybrid and return-to-office (RTO) policies tighten, more remote workers may look for Denver-based jobs, increasing competition.

  • Denver is a highly desirable market for job seekers nationwide, meaning companies can be selective when hiring. I hear this frequently from Recruiters who I know in the Tech industry here – there is a lot of well qualified talent looking to break into Denver/Boulder and Colorado overall.

  • Strong positioning in the job market and knowing your career strategy has a big impact. Whether you’re job searching or preparing for a career move, knowing your strategy, and having that clearly communicated on your resume and LinkedIn profile is key.

3. AI Job Postings Are Growing -There Were 2,500+ Listings in the Past Year

AI-related job postings are rising, with over 2,500 unique AI-related jobs posted in Colorado between November 2023 and 2024. Major employers hiring for AI talent locally include Amazon, Deloitte, and Lockheed Martin.

What this means for you:

  • AI isn’t just for engineers -many roles across organizations are incorporating AI-driven tools including: Operations, Sales, Product Management and several others.

  • Gaining AI literacy can be a competitive edge. Many professionals are learning AI applications within their roles, even if they aren’t in tech-specific jobs.

  • Employers value professionals who are adaptable, tech-savvy, and proactive about learning industry trends.
